Swimming Lessons in Michigan to Prevent Drowning
Who We Are
After losing a grandson in an accidental drowning in upper Michigan, the founder saw a need to teach swimming. Gathering family and friends together to discuss how to bring about awareness that everyone should know how to swim, Joshua's Dreams Non-Profit was formed to address that need. Collaborating with the YMCA provides a safe environment for children and adults to learn to swim.
Our Mission
Our Mission is to raise drowning awareness, specifically to teach swimming skills to children, youth and adults. Our members, volunteers and collaborations provide the momentum that helps us affect change. Using The American Red Cross swimming models, we provide solutions for that person that says: I can't swim! Together we can make a long-lasting difference.
Joshua's Story
Soon after his prom was over, Joshua’s uncle took him and his little brother, Lance, who was 5 at the time, to Baldwin, Michigan. It was a place we all called “up north” affectionately. Joshua’s granddad had a place “up north” just as his Great granddad had before Joshua was even born.
Joshua sent me a text while up north fishing. He sent a text of a little fish he had caught out on the lake in his Granddad’s fishing boat. I responded to make sure he wore a hat and sunscreen. In typical fashion for me, I asked about his final exams. He responded he was going to take his final exams the following week. In another text message he shared his uncle had just wanted to take him and his little brother out of the city for a little while to have some fun before finals. Joshua sent me another video text of his little brother and his uncle on a four-wheeler riding and having fun. We signed off and little did we know what would happen the very next day.
